Here, cycling is a whole way of life. Each cyclist lives and breathes the sport whichever way they like, be it through sporting challenges on the legendary Colombière, Aravis or Croix Fry mountain passes and other cols featuring in the Tour de France cycle race, or on a gently-paced exploration that allows the time to stop and enjoy local products or admire spectacular views of the turquoise lake and the permanently snow-covered Mont Blanc.
Embark on an adventure off the beaten track, to truly escape and discover an authentic setting full of quiet little hamlets, sampling local products along the way and enjoying breathtaking views. In this tranquil wilderness, even the most seasoned cyclists will be satisfied by the Plan Bois, Épine, Arpettaz and other hidden passes that may not be as grandiose but are no less challenging.
The rather challenging Gravel trails plunge you into the natural setting of the alpine pastures of the Glières, Aravis and Bauges mountains, on sections of untarmacked road. The length of these sections vary from one itinerary to another. Choose your route among the 4 listed, in line with your preferences.
You can also take part in “La Résistance”, the first untimed Gravel bike race in France. This event was created in 2016, in remembrance of the Resistance fighters who fell on the Glières plateau during the second world war.
Throughout your cycling itineraries, you’ll find the “Accueil Vélo” seal of approval displayed by accommodation providers, restaurants, bike shops and rental outlets, tourist offices and attractions… the promise of quality services and facilities that meet the needs and expectations of cyclists.
Check out bike-friendly facilities with the Accueil Vélo Annecy (Aravis region and around Lake Annecy).
All of the routes in the Annecy Mountains can be followed by Ebike, which means anyone can make the most of the region with family or friends. This alternative way to enjoy cycling opens up new horizons for all, and offers the joys of sharing the same itinerary while pedalling at your own pace.
To keep the use of cars to a minimum, and in line with our soft mobility strategy, you can use the region’s shuttle services to reach your itinerary departure point by bus or by boat.
