This morning, the whole family was up early and in good humour, to head for the Glières plateau for a fabulous day in the snow. Time for Louise and I to get back on our cross-country skis, while Paul and his dad go off to do their own thing. With our lift passes pre-booked on line, all we have to do is attach our skis and take to the trails that wind through the forest and across the open spaces. In the distance we can see the ski-school area where Louise started out! There are plenty of lessons available for beginners and improvers in classic or skate-style cross-country skiing. We make the most of the sun and exceptional snow conditions to enjoy those sensations once again and the immense pleasure that we look forward to year after year. Then all of a sudden… look who’s there – the boys, skiing past at top speed!
This year, we remembered to book well ahead and our day is just perfect! At last, Paul and Antoine can go on their much-awaited adventure with Philippe, the local musher. After harnessing the dogs, they have a go at driving the sled, an intense sport both physically and emotionally. They return absolutely thrilled by their fantastic expedition across the enchanting landscapes of the plateau.
The’Édelweiss Spa at the Auberge des Glières promises 2 hours of ultimate relaxation. Between the sauna, hammam, swimming pool and whirlpool bath, we don’t know where to start… We continue to enjoy the beautiful view over the plateau from the picture windows at the swimming pool and relaxation area. Then the hammam immerses us in an envelopping, subdued atmosphere as the steam relaxes our muscles and eliminates toxins. The day’s excitement gradually subsides.
